Quick checks before you call

Sometimes the fix is simpler than the service call.

Before scheduling service, there are a few safe things you can check from outside the equipment. If the problem remains, stop there and call us. You should never need to remove equipment panels, handle wiring or work around gas components to troubleshoot your system.

Pool heat pump checks

Four simple things to look at first.

These checks stay outside the equipment and can rule out common operating conditions before a technician is needed.

Confirm the pool pump is running

A pool heat pump needs proper water flow. Make sure the circulation pump is on and water is moving normally.

Check the heater settings

Confirm the heater is in the correct mode and the set temperature is above the current water temperature.

Look at filter pressure and valves

A dirty filter, closed valve or poor flow condition can keep a heater from operating correctly.

Write down the display message

If an error code is showing, take a photo or write it down before trying a single reset.

Still not working? Stop there.

Repeated resets can erase useful clues or allow a failing component to keep trying to operate.

When to call

If the basic checks do not solve it, let the equipment stay off.

!
Breaker keeps trippingDo not keep resetting a breaker that trips again.
!
Burning smell, smoke or melted wiringTurn the equipment off and call for service.
!
Gas odorLeave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services as appropriate. Do not operate switches or the heater.

Air conditioning checks

A few safe A/C checks can save an unnecessary visit.

Do not open the air handler or condenser. These are simply things you can check at the thermostat, filter and breaker.

Thermostat mode and setpoint

Confirm the thermostat is set to COOL and the temperature is set below the room temperature.

Air filter

Check whether the return filter is heavily restricted or overdue for replacement.

Breaker

If the A/C breaker is off, you can reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and schedule service.

Airflow

Make sure supply and return vents are not blocked and note whether the indoor fan is moving air.
